The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) offers grants of up to 1 million TL per year to the universities to encourage them to establish new Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) and to develop existing ones since 2013. In 2013, for the first time, the 1513 Support Programme for Technology Transfer Offices was launched by the TÜBİTAK Science Fellowship and Grant Programmes Department (TEYDEB) to facilitate collaboration between universities and industrial enterprises and allow industry to benefit from new information-based technologies.
TTOs, providing coordination and communication between universities and industry, have a significant role in converting academic studies into patented products and services. These offices also work as project offices to help universities make use of national and international public support efficiently. They are involved in the preparation of project applications and the establishment and monitoring of project partnerships. They also play a critical role in university-industry cooperation, supporting the emergence of entrepreneurial ideas from faculty members and students and the industrial application of the knowledge they acquire in academia.
Those TTOs are carrying out a very variable range of activities relating to different channels: collaborative research, contract research, consultancy, spin-off and startup companies, incubator facilities, licensing, and patenting as well as the career development services for the researchers.
